STRUCTURE OF DGCA CPL EXAMINATION

The DGCA CPL (Commercial Pilot License) Examination evaluates the theoretical and practical knowledge required to become a licensed commercial pilot in India. Below is the structured breakdown

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

Age: Minimum 18 years.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION

Passed Class 10+2 with Physics, Mathematics, and English.

MEDICAL FITNESS

Class 1 Medical fitness certificate from DGCA-approved examiners.

FLYING HOURS

Minimum of 200 flying hours logged, including specific requirements like cross country, night flying, and instrument hours

WRITTEN EXAMINATIONS

The CPL theoretical exams are conducted by DGCA, and the subjects include

 

AIR METEOROLOGY
  • Weather patterns and their impact on flight operations.
  • Aviation meteorology and forecasting
AIR REGULATION
  • DGCA rules and regulations.
  • International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards.
AIR NAVIGATION
  • Principles of navigation.
  • Calculations related to direction, distance, and time.
  • Use of aeronautical charts and instruments.
TECHNICAL SPECIFIC
  • Radio Telephony Restricted (Aeronautical) Communication skills using standard radiotelephony procedures.
  • Mandatory separate exam conducted by the Wireless Planning & Coordination (WPC) Wing.
TECHNICAL GENERAL

RTR – A

FLIGHT PROFICIENCY TEST (SKILL TEST)

Conducted in a DGCA-approved Flight Training Organization (FTO).

PASS MARKS AND VALIDITY

Passing Marks: Minimum 70% in each subject.
